Isaiah 58:10 “And if you give yourself to the hungry And satisfy the desire of the afflicted, Then your light will rise in darkness And your gloom will become like midday.”
Around the world, there are societies impacted by poverty, malnutrition and food security, disease, conflict, environmental challenges, lack of access to basic amenities (shelter, clean water and sanitation), poor governance, lack of justice, et cetera. Multiple theories also suggest a strong inter dependency across the above issues and that their impacts are global hence cannot be dealt with in isolation calling for a concerted effort and worldwide involvement to alleviate global issues.
As a global citizen, I am compelled by a deep sense of responsibility to get involved in making the world a better place for all and indeed, what begun as a silent whisper back in 2015 had developed into a strong nudge which led me to apply for the 2018 PULSE cohort.
In mid-May 2018, 66 GSK PULSE volunteers from 20 countries met for the 1st GLOBAL Orientation training before serving in over 31 countries for 6 months full-time with 26 NGOs around the world. This was the 10th anniversary team of volunteers hence tagged PULSE10.
I am humbled to be part of this great team of volunteers stepping into a life changing journey to be changed, be the change and make the change. It was inspiring to see the glow of GSK values and expectations ignited in every volunteer as well as the zeal and readiness to courageously embark on an enlightening as well as transformative journey.
Commencing June 27th 2018, I will be taking up a Global Alliance Regional Coordinator volunteer assignment with Leonard Cheshire for 6 months in Bangalore, India as part of the GSK’s PULSE Volunteer Partnership. My role will play a pivotal role in coordinating with the Regional Council members by exploring possibilities of Partnership building and fund-raising opportunities across the region to sustain the growth of the alliance through capacity-building, project management, communications and process management to improve the sustainability and effectiveness of the Global Alliance.
Are you willing to be changed, be the change and make the change? Opportunities are all around us. Just step into it…
