GSK PULSE volunteer partnership* seemed like a distant dream for me although this idea was planted years ago.
“There will never be a best timing for PULSE. Every year we will always have different priorities. You just go ahead and chase your dream and we will support you!” This was the conversation I had between Vincent and Angeline in 2016. Now in 2017, PULSE is actually happening = it is truly a dream come true! As the first volunteer for Singapore Tuas Vaccine site, I am proud to represent GSK, which ranked as the #1 company in The Fortune 2016 “Change the World” list of businesses that have had positive social impact to the society.
Many people wonder why I would like to participate in PULSE. What is so special about this program? By participating in PULSE, I hope that my professional skills will be able to help the NGOs drive improvement and create sustainable changes to the communities they serve. I have a strong belief in the wisdom behind ‘teaching a man to fish’ so when I have completed the program, my aim is that the NGOs can continue to grow, which fits the NGOs’ need. Save the Children in Philippines is where I am going to serve for the next 6 months as Program Manager for the Asia Urban Program to explore and promote replicable and scalable solutions to drive learning and programming agenda, recognizing the diverse country and urban contexts in the Asia region.
In less than a week, I will mark my starting point of my PULSE journey. But now, I am overwhelmed with the handover activities and mid-year PDP discussions with my teams; there do not seem to be enough hours in each day. I am sincerely thankful to the GSK PULSE team and the Pulse community, which has helped me much throughout the preparation journey, as well as my Singapore team, my family and friends who support me to chase my dream. Thanks for giving me your time, the precious gift of all.
It was an amazing sunset view in Singapore today. Let us offer our time to help more children in the world be able to enjoy the sunset like we do. Join me on my PULSE journey in the next 6 months.
*The PULSE Volunteer Partnership is GSK’s skills-based volunteering initiative. Through PULSE, motivated employees are matched to a non-profit organisation for 3 or 6 months full-time, contributing their skills to solve healthcare challenges at home and abroad. When PULSE Volunteers return to GSK, they act as catalysts to change the company for the better.
