All my bags are packed, I’m ready to go

I’m sure that’s from a song!  This last week has been an absolute whirlwind. It all started exactly a week ago when I submitted my visa application followed by a million things to get done before I leave on my 6-month adventure to Nigeria.

How does one pack for 6 months????  So I managed to get a smidge under weight allowance of 46 kg  – well it is for 6 months!!  30 knitted baby tunics with matching bonnets, summer clothes, both formal and casual- just in case, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, and 10 pairs of shoes later and with a couple of re-packing attempts and vacuum packing I am there.  It did take 2 days though and I am still wondering how I can possible get the remaining 5 pairs of shoes I had to leave behind – a girl can never have too many pairs of shoes…

Packing Jun2015

I leave tonight for Abuja, which is the capital of Nigeria.  I have been told that this purpose built capital city is modeled on Paris – I will let you know.  I will in in Abuja in interesting times with a newly democratically elected government in power, hope is in the air for change.

I feel very privileged indeed to be spending the next 6-months working with the NGO Jhpiego helping to further the training curricula under the USAid funded Maternal and Child Survival programme.

I will most certainly keep you posted on how I do.

So to infinity and beyond…….

I’l leaving on a jet plane….I remember now, it’s John Denver song!!!

Goodbye Saffron Walden on a glorious summer’s day.
