Helping to End World Hunger by packaging 10K meals at GSK Parsippany

October is World Hunger Action Month, set aside to encourage global movements to end hunger. To bring the focus of world hunger to GSK Parsippany, Lisa Hanger and I combined a “Stop Hunger Now” meal packaging event AND the kickoff of the new GSK Global Volunteering Portal. This turned into a rockin’ Orange Day activity that was held in the cafeteria. Even the cafeteria staff broke out some great dance moves along with the volunteers attending the event. We packaged 10K meals that shipped to Liberia to help with the Ebola crisis.
Lisa opened up the Orange Day event by welcoming everyone and talking to the importance of volunteering. I introduced my PULSE partner, Stop Hunger Now, and reinforced the importance of skill based volunteering on our personal and career development. Rich from Stop Hunger Now then talked to us about World Hunger. This was a great way to tie it all together. LOVE IT!
I also attended 2 other 10K meal packaging events on this Northeast tour and was able to stop at both Philadelphia & National Capital Stop Hunger Now warehouses. Part of my project scope is capturing best practices, ways to standardize, and improve the meal packaging events. What a great trip!
