It’s coming closer
End of August, and the clock is ticking. Still 8 days to go before I will be taking off for Côte d’Ivoire. Six months of working in a health and nutrition project of Save the Children around the city of Man, in the western area of the country, is lying in front of me. On one hand I am looking forward to it, on the other hand it means saying goodbye to my family, friends and colleagues. Somewhat a mixed feeling, you might say.
It seems like yesterday when I started thinking about this unique opportunity to live and work in a different cultural environment. After getting the support of my management and team, I sent in my candidature. Each step in the application process brought uncertainty but also excitement. Finally the positive answer arrived. At first it all still seemed unreal. But after the positive phone contact with the future partner it slowly trickled down: I would be going to Africa for six months!
Now the departure date is coming closer. This is a good moment to say thank you to all those people who supported me throughout this whole process. Without their help it would not have been possible. This PULSE assignment will give me the opportunity to learn more about other cultures, to feel and be helpful towards others, to stretch my limits and to work under very different conditions than those at GSK. I wish you all the best, and see you all back safe and healthy early March 2014!
