Week 0 – Thursday, June 20 – Sunday, June 23:
My husband, Chuck, and I arrived in Lexington, Kentucky on Thursday morning, June 20th. We left our home in Upper Gwynedd, PA around 5pm on Wednesday night. Our plan was to drive until Chuck got tired, and then find a hotel room and finish the 650 mile/10-hour trip in the morning. We started looking for a hotel room around 10:30pm outside Pittsburgh, PA. Well, over two hours and more than 100 miles later, we finally found a $65/night room at the Economy Inn. Turns out every room from Pittsburgh, PA to Zanesville, OH was already booked by the Marcellus Shale gas workers.
We spent Thursday through Sunday unpacking, going to WalMart, waiting for the cable guy, sightseeing (Lincoln’s birthplace and boyhood home are in KY), and watching a horse race at Churchill Downs in Louisville. Then Chuck flew home and I was alone in Lexington. Nervous, but looking forward to finally starting my PULSE assignment.
