Building Blocks – Save the Children, Ethiopia

One of the most important things I could be a part of today was attending a workshop on Financial Grant Management for Budget Holders. For anyone working with or for an NGO, this is Nonprofit 101. The grant management cycle is complicated, but if NGOs are to continue to receive funding from their donors, they have to be diligent in the management and reporting of donor funds.

I learned the ins and outs of the compliance awareness cycle which was surrounded by areas like identifying funding opportunities, proposal design, strategic planning, evaluation and learning, final reporting and claims, to name a few.

Part of my assignment is centered around the creation of grant files for the WASH Program of Save the Children UK. There are over 10 projects and I am tasked with setting up files for each of them…soup to nuts, per se. This process library becomes a relevant and important resource for handovers, audits and future grant-making strategies. My role is becoming a lot better defined. Alleluia!
